When Solana Shield Is Activated, any SOL in your Hot Wallet is automatically transferred to your Cold Wallet.

With a zero SOL balance, there is no SOL to steal or use to transfer your NFTs. Meanwhile, your holdings are safely stored in your Cold Wallet until you’re ready to use them. Solana Shield is a new form of 2-Factor-Authentication to prevent malicious transactions.

When dealing in crypto, on Solana or any other chain, there’s always the risk of having your wallet compromised.

This can happen by connecting to a malicious contract, clicking on phishing links, or becoming exposed in other ways.

Recently my wallet was compromised for 2,349 SOL, roughly $240,000 in value at the time.

Due to the transparency of the blockchain, @ZachXBT was able to track the hacker as he attempted to “wash” the dirty money by transferring it through multiple wallets, a wormhole, and peer-to-peer swaps.

With Zach’s help, we were able to recover ~$50k by alerting the vendors to freeze the funds while they were in escrow.

The rest of the funds have yet to be recovered, and probably never will be. It’s extremely rare to recover anything at all; I was fortunate to even get a portion of it back.

While I thought I had decent practices to keep my wallets secure, this theft made me realize that there are more vulnerabilities I wasn’t prepared for.

As Solana becomes more popular, it’s increasingly important to educate the community on security best-practices, which is why we created The 4-Wallet System laid out in The Solana Security Playbook, and built security apps like Solana Shield.

To get started, you'll input your:

• Private Key for your Hot Wallet (the wallet you're Shielding)
• Public Address for your Cold Wallet (the wallet for Storing)

Solana Shield, when used as explained, is a secure option that disincentivizes hackers from attacking your account, even if they gained access to your Seed Keys. Your Private Key is encrypted and hosted on Heroku.

The worst case scenario of using Solana Shield is that if someone hacks your Heroku instance and gets access to your Seed Key, they could disable the Shield and take anything (simply NFTs) in your Hot Wallet.

BUT, this would be extremely hard to do if you have 2FA setup for your e-mail and Heroku login – much harder than stealing your Seed Keys through malicious contracts or a Phishing scam.

Another benefit of Solana Shield is that even if your Seed Keys are hacked through another way not through Solana Shield, there would be no way for the Hacker to steal your funds because your Shield would be activated and they could not deposit SOL to make any transactions, as it’d automatically be transferred to your Cold Wallet.

In other words, the worst case scenario is that your Hot Wallet is hacked and you still have a good chance of keeping your funds safe. A better chance than if it was hacked and you weren’t using Solana Shield.

• Any SOL received from NFT sales and other sources is transferred safely to your Cold Wallet
• Your Hot Wallet maintains a zero SOL balance
• NFTs cannot be transferred out of your wallet

• You can resume trading normally
• Just transfer SOL your Cold Wallet to your Hot Wallet, then re-activate Solana Shield to move your leftover SOL back to your Cold Wallet
